Illness and Absence

Hi, folks! I have not posted any entries in two months because I was caring for an ill family member for 4 weeks, after her lengthy hospital stay, and, then, became ill myself (my skin disease flared up). If all goes well, I am hoping to do more entries now because I'm feeling better. Here's a few updates, although not shots from inside the garage.

Four weeks ago, while driving from my mother's house to my house, I passed through a neighborhood that had trash day the following day. At two different locations, I scored these items.

I have already worked on the leaf blower, and it runs perfectly. I am not sure about the edger, but I am hoping that I can get it running and use it; I think that I need to replace the blade, but that is an easy fix. The engine on the edger is a 3.5 hp, but I have no idea what I might need to do to get it running because, since I scored it, I've been sick (until a few days ago).

Next, 3 weeks ago, I was driving from my mother's house to my house, going through a different neighborhood, the night before trash day, and I spotted this machine and quickly stopped:

It took a bit of work to get it into my hatchback (oh, how I miss my old Ford Ranger), but I did. It's Bolens chipper/shredder with a 5hp Tecumseh engine.

Again, I've not fiddled with it, but it's going to be one of my next projects (assuming my health remains good). I know there's going to be some repair work because there's a small gash where the heavy duty plastic "funnel" ends and meets the metal housing for the blades. I'll remove that and the sheet metal facing (in the above picture where it says "Bolens") and then see what is what. I am betting I need to replace the chipper blades and might have to ask a buddy to help with welding (I'd like to close that gash, so no debris spits out during operation). If anything, there's good parts there to use (and a nice 5 hp engine).

Well, that's all for now. If all goes well (fingers crossed), I'll do another posting later this week.

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you enjoyed seeing my latest scores.

Cheers,
